A Toast to New Zealand’s Waitangi Day with the Best of Marlborough Wines

Winetangi day, or should we say ‘Waitangi’ Day, celebrates a significant day in the history of New Zealand. It marks New Zealand’s founding document, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, dating back to the 6th of February 1840!

In celebration of Waitangi Day, we present to you

the best of New Zealand’s wines across the country’s

best wine region, Marlborough.


What makes Marlborough so special is its remarkable synergy of climate and soil that expresses a unique terroir. This creates a balance of extraordinary purity and intensity of flavours that gives these wines a surprising delight to your palate.

Momo Pinot Noir, Marlborough

From the Seresin Estate of Marlborough, Momo’s Pinot Noir packs a punch. This well balanced, medium to full body wine is pale cranberry red in colour. It has a nose that is floral, spicy, fruity, yet earthy, with herbal characters and hints of cedar, white pepper and mushroom. While the wine is dry, subtle and refreshing, the focused palate is concentrated with succulent dark fruits layered over smoky oak and fine light and smooth tannins. So diverse, so delicious!

Seresin Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough

Located within, is Seresin’s Sauvignon Blanc. Pale yellow in colour with medium acidity, this Sauvignon Blanc has passion fruit, peach, apricot and nectarine extracts. This smokey oaks, and herbaceous notes on the nose, are complimented by a chalky mineral complexity, and finely textured palate of ripe tropical fruits, gooseberry, and citrus notes. This is further framed by a fresh acidity to create a persistent, long finish. Just as unique to challenge your taste buds!

Georges Michel Golden Mile Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough

Just a short drive towards the Cloudy Bay is Georges Michel’s Golden Mile Sauvignon Blanc. A typical Marlborough Sauvignon, using grapes selected only from the Rapaura region, this wine showcases tropical fruit aromas of pineapple, passionfruit and grapefruit with subtle herbaceous flavours. The dry, lingering palate springs to life with zingy and zestful characteristics synonymous with the Marlborough region. Get your tastebuds tingling with this one!

Overstone Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough

Moving onwards is Overstone’s Sauvignon Blanc. This white wine embodies classic zesty gooseberry and tropical fruit flavours, accompanied by a fresh aromatic nose and a clean crisp finish. It’s a perfect drink before a meal, and can work as seafood wine best enjoyed while young and fresh. This wine also pairs well with fresh salads, and spicy dishes. Something to excite for a delicious meal ahead!

Paua Pinot Noir, Marlborough

Lastly, Paua Bay’s Pinot Noir is a vibrant wine with purity of fruit and great intensity. Garnet red in colour, it is packed with lively flavours and distinct herbaceous aromas. It is topped off with fragrant dark cherry with delicate violet notes and an elegant seductive texture. Raspberry, cherry and plum with subtle oak on the nose. Earthy character, long finish, dry with soft fruit tannins, this is a wine with serious structure and length. A great wine to toast with!
