G'day mate! On the 26th of January we go to the land down under to celebrate Australia Day, which marks the arrival of Britain’s first fleet to Australia in 1788. Celebrations reflect the nation’s diverse society and landscape, and are denoted by community and family events, reflections on history, community awards, and ceremonies welcoming new members of the community. It is also meant for you to sleep in, go for a swim, kick a footie around, have a BBQ, and enjoy a meal over quality wine.
In conjunction with Australia’s National Day, Wine Connection presents to you the best of Australian wines. These wines were specially hand-picked from the Barossa Valley region northeast of Adelaide, to the fertile banks of Western Australia. You’re in for a treat, as these uniquely delicious wines will leave you thirsting for more.
HAYFIELD Vineyards Shiraz
New South Wales, Australia
Hailing from New South Wales is Hayfield Vineyards’ Shiraz, a full-bodied wine with a soft palate that is packed with flavours of plum, blackcurrant and cherry. It is further strengthened by subtle fine tannins and toasty oak that provide an extraordinary length to the palate. If you’re up for a lively night this is the right choice for you!
SMITHBROOK Cabernet / Shiraz
Pemberton, Western Australia
Hailing from Western Australia is Smithbrook Cabernet Sauvignon. A medium bodied wine with great length and flavour, it contains the rich flavours of blackberries, ripe plums and blueberries. Their fine grained tannin is also entwined with a hint of savoury oak lead. If you’re down to relax and unwind after a long day, this bottle is perfect for you!
TANUNDA HILL Shiraz
Barossa Valley, Australia
Tanunda Hill’s Shiraz hails from South Australia in the renowned Barossa Valley region. Its colour is deep in purple, and though dark it’s full of life with a lifted spicy fruity nose. With a fruit flavoured finish, it also has smooth tannins on the palate that integrate perfectly. If you’re in for a fruitilicious surprise this one is ready for the taking!
CLARENCE HILL Cabernet Sauvignon
Also coming from Australia’s South in Adelaide is Clarence Hill’s Cabernet Sauvignon. It maintains a fairly strong tannin structure in contrast to others, and contains dark Cassis-like fruits, similar to that of blackcurrant. A glass of this gem is absolutely perfect with rib eye steak, something Australians love!
